Technique to DIY bricklaying
If you are prepared to lay the bricks and build a wall on your own, here is a technique as to how to go about it. But first of all, make a list of the things that you would require to lay bricks on your own. In the technique to DIY bricklaying, you will require string line, bricks, bricklaying trowel, hammer, mortar and spirit level. Once you have got these things, it’s time to get started by following this process:
Before you build a wall, lay down your foundation strip. After this has been laid down, string lines should be fastened on the pegs. Stretch these lines on the strip crossways the foundation. Before finally putting the brick, dry-lay a brick so that you get a fair idea as to what you will get finally. You can begin the process by first laying the corner brick. You can lay either the header or the stretcher facing towards you.
After this brick has been laid down, start by putting the “queen” closer just side-by-side the corner brick. Queen brick is that brick which is cut lengthwise. Make sure that you have left a gap of 1cm between two bricks. Continue the process and you will get the first course. After you have laid this first course and you are sure enough that this has been done correctly, you can relay the second one. But, make sure that you start filling the gaps with 1cm mortar joints. Whether your course is in equal level or not will be checked with the help of spirit level.
During the second course, you will have to lay bricks starting with header first, in case the first course had been laid with stretcher. This will be repeated in a vice-versa way till you complete the wall finally.
